Larsen & Toubro (L&T) recently bagged an order worth US$ 161.4 million to build tracks for the Riyadh metro project in Saudi Arabia. What´s more, the giant contractor also recently appointed SN Subrahmanyan as its Deputy Managing Director and President, besides being its Whole Time Director. Subrahmanyan is largely responsible for establishing L&T Construction as a significant EPC player in the Middle East and has also led the spread into Africa. With his elevation to the role of Deputy Managing Director and President, he has the overall responsibility to guide the fortunes and build L&T which is already a US$ 15 billion conglomerate. Work for the Riyadh Metro project involves the construction of 62.86 km of double ballastless tracks in tunnels, viaducts and three depots for Lines-1 and 2 on a design and build basis. The order is in sync with L&T´s strategy to expand their railway business into the Middle East. Subrahmanyan, over the last 30 years, has played a critical role in driving many of L&T´s large and prestigious infrastructure and construction projects. To add to all of this, with several pioneering initiatives to his credit, Subrahmanyan is also CONSTRUCTION WORLD´S MAN OF THE YEAR 2015 and will be awarded at the CW Annual Awards in India on October 16, 2015.
