Under a new strategy launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, 25 per cent of buildings in Dubai will be based on 3D printing technology by 2030. For Sheikh Mohammed, the Dubai 3D Printing strategy aims to promote the status of the UAE and Dubai as a leading hub of 3D printing technology by 2030. The strategy will focus on three major sectors - construction, medical products and consumer products. The value of 3D printing technology based construction sector in Dubai is expected to be about AED 3 billion by 2025. The future does not wait for those who hesitate and slow down. Sheikh Mohammed rightly thinks so and believes that the next stage requires to be acted fast upon and utilise the opportunities.
For him, the technology will create added economic value and benefit worth billions of dollars during the coming period. While 3D printing technology is expected to cut construction costs by 50-70 per cent and labour costs by 50-80 per cent, we hope Sheikh Mohammed will establish a universal model that will serve as a platform for innovators in this futuristic technology worldwide.
