Established in 1998, Emirates Steel grew in a relatively short period of time, from a simple re-roller of imported steel billets to a complex integrated manufacturing plant, using modern solutions to tackle traditional industrial problems to generate value for its various stakeholders. Mohammed Salem Al Afari, Vice President, Marketing, Emirates Steel, chalks out his plans for The Big 5 event.
What are your expectations from The Big 5 Dubai Event this year?
The Big 5 is an important event for us as it is an excellent venue to showcase our expertise in steel production, and boost our position at the local and regional markets. With the increased demand for high quality steel products in the regional market, we were satisfied with the positive response we received during last year´s edition, and this year we hope to exceed expectations.
Which are the products that you will showcase at the event this year?
We are showcasing our steel product range including rebar, rebar in coil, wire rod, heavy sections and sheet piles. We will also highlight our efforts in producing added value steel products and quality service.
Also, elaborate on the company´s strategies to generate sales from an event of this nature.
To us, this exhibition is the perfect destination where we can meet our end-users and have direct dialogue with them. It is also an excellent opportunity to create awareness through customer education and understanding customer requirements one-to-one.
What are the factors that compelled you to participate in the event this year?
We view the Big 5 as one of the most important events on the construction events calendar in Dubai and the region, as it provides the best exposure for our products among clients.
How do you view the current market for the building and construction sectors in the GCC?
Post the crisis of 2008, the market is slowly regaining its vibrancy. With the best contractors and fabricators from the region and the world operating in UAE, we have one of the most developed construction markets in the world. Today, UAE has 4.1 million tonne of rebar capacity installed, 1 million tonne of section capacity and 800,000 tonne of wire rod capacity.
