The best quality concrete is now affordable in Doha. To maximise the global expectation of a high quality structural fitness in the state of Qatar, following the present economic boom, the construction industry since last year has increased strength in technological exploration and advancement towards creating standardised and qualitative concrete cities in Qatar. This increase in construction of edifice will hopefully continue for the next 15 years. To follow the trend, there was an increasing need for the concrete ready mix industry to research on quality products. This is what was concluded by Nabeel Owdeh, CEO of Qatar Alpha Beton Readymix Co. (QAB), and his team of scientists.
QAB now produces the best quality concrete in town. Owdeh however informs that his company´s quality product and services have regularly been testified by most quality minded clients as the best in the recent times. He further states that though his company prioritises supply, as a leading ready mix company, it has the capacity to satisfy all the clients by supplying on time at an affordable price.
Established in 2006, QAB has four concrete batching plants; two in the Doha industrial area and two in the Lusail area with inline aggregate hoppers at a rated production capacity of between 100 cubic m per hr to 260 cubic m per hr for each plant and maximum actual production capacity of 10,000 cubic m per day. These batching plants are fully computerised with the latest technology, which strictly controls and maintains quality production. Furthermore, QAB runs a strict quality control system to ensure the customers or clients standards are met.
Cooling system In QAB, there are two types of cooling systems in operation. One is the traditional way of using chillers for cooling the sweet water, and the other is the use of ice plants to control the temperature. QAB has the biggest ice storage which helps to produce a large quantity of concrete capable of withstanding the prevailing tropical temperature of Qatar.
Meanwhile, the raw material cooling system follows the latest technology in cooling systems. This new technologically advanced cooling system highlights the exceptionality or uniqueness of QAB´s quality concrete.
How does it go? The plants are equipped with an overall integrated cooling system operating without ice. It cools down the concrete temperature so much that all aggregates are chilled before mixing. The cold air is injected through the hoppers and the conveyer belt, which carries the materials to the mixers before mixing, having surrounded the main mixers with cold water jacket to reduce the heat transfer, thereby keeping the temperature very low. The cement screws are also surrounded with cold water jacket, to give a better control on water cement ratio which at last results in a quality output. Another great advantage of this process is that it ensures smooth production in the plant, realising that the cleaning process would enable a shutdown of the batching plant, causing a breach in production. At this low temperature level, a more relaxed and fresh concrete product is achieved.
Raw materials QAB has strategic partnership with the raw material suppliers for continuous production and quality service delivery. Thus, materials are promptly supplied whenever required. Besides, there is a team of professional marketing and sales personnel who take care of all customer requirements.
HSE Unlike other ready mix companies who end at providing safety materials for their employees, QAB runs a formidable HSE Department, managed by a competent HSE personnel. Thus, all activities or operations are made to strictly follow the safety rules and standards.
Furthermore, as rightly said, ´Good environment attracts good investors.´ To this regard, QAB HSE Department appoints its staff to maintain a safe and pollution free environment, while manufacturing and delivering ready mix concrete. So, decency and enabling environment is a cardinal area of attraction that earns QAB the preference and consent of customers and the public.
As a part of its environmental initiatives, the company has installed water treatment and concrete reclaim to facilitate the recycle and reuse of waste that are generated during the concrete production. All the necessary workforces of both human, material and equipment are being provided, with prompt re-examinations and proper certifications. These include some technologically advanced and improved equipment, machines, tractors, loaders, author shovels, forklifts, etc, thereby keeping the two factories and their environment clean, habitable and less hazardous.
Fleet To meet different requirements and to ensure fast and efficient delivery and handle big pouring of about 9,000 cubic m at a given time, the company has 12 functional mobile pumps with boom lengths that vary between 24-58 m, and fleet of over 70 transit concrete mixers with 10-12 cubic m capacity each. In addition, there are a good number of concrete distributors equipment that extend pouring to areas where the mobile pumps cannot reach.
Research and development QAB has a special team in co-operation with international firms, by which it gets informed about the current international changes, updates and new developments in concrete production.
