Aluminium Bahrain BSC (Alba) recently approved the Line 6 Expansion Project. Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa, Chairman, Aluminium Bahrain BSC (Alba) expressing gratitude, said that in addition to making Alba the largest single-site smelter in the world upon project completion, the Line 6 project will also strengthen Bahrain´s position as the hub for the downstream aluminium industry in the GCC. The $3.5 billion Line 6 expansion will increase Alba´s annual output by 514,000 tonne to reach 1.45 mtpa on full production. Alongside construction and installation costs, the budget also covers the building of a new 1,350 MW power station, the fifth linked to the Alba complex. The Line 6 potline, looked after by Al Khalifa, will utilise Dubal´s DX+ Technology, which will bring state-of-the-art technology to optimise cost performance and reduce energy consumption. Additional capacity at the plant is expected to act as a significant driver for economic growth and job creation in Bahrain. In addition, at least 50 per cent of the new metal production is expected to be sold to existing and new Bahrain downstream customers. According to Al Khalifa, the project will allow Alba to optimise both - its cost structure and marketing strategy.
