Widely recognised as the foremost leader in the steel industry, Qatar Steel specialises in the manufacturing of DRI or HBI (direct reduction iron or hot briquetted iron), steel billets, high yield steel re-enforcement bars ranging in sizes from 10 mm to 40 mm in diameter, along with high quality steel wire rod and rebar in coil. It also operates a UAE-based subsidiary - Qatar Steel Company FZE in Jebel Ali Free Zone. In 2006, Qatar Steel received the CARES Sustainable Reinforcing Steel certificate. Further, the company celebrated its 30th anniversary of its commercial production in 2008 and was named by MEED as one of the Top 4 steel producers in the Middle East. What's more, in 2012, Qatar Steel was inducted into Palladium's Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame for Strategy Execution - the first company in Qatar and also the first steel company in the region - and it stands testimony to the company's robust strategy management system with effective use of BSC.
Qatar Steel aspires to be the first name in the region's steel industry contributing proactively towards reducing toxic emissions from its facilities, protecting the environment and making the steel production process more eco-friendly. The company's production is DRI based, using the cleanest raw material for steel-making. It also adheres to the globally accepted ISO 14001:2004 environmental management standards.

The company has improved in most areas of health and safety, with a lot of effort being imparted by the concerned departments to raise the safety standards. As a result, OSHAS 18001 was awarded to Qatar Steel. A key achievement in 2015, under the recycling and sustainability initiative was to utilise the by-products as a replacement for its raw material needs. The company also successfully commissioned the by-products Briquetting Plant in the third quarter.
