Tell us something about your ongoing projects? What is the total value of projects currently being developed? Currently, we have three major ongoing projects, besides several smaller ones. We are in the final stages of the Al Shaqab Equestrian Academy project, and have also executed numerous airbase projects in the last seven years. We are the main contractors for the Logistics Village Qatar project and have bagged several other residential projects. The total value of our current projects is around QR 350 million
Name some of your milestone projects?
One of our most satisfying projects is the Logistics Village Qatar Project for which we adapted our schedules according to the needs of our client. Our phasing of the handovers in the project helped our client to benefit much earlier from the project than was originally anticipated.
Kindly brief us on your involvement in the Al Shaqab Project. How was the experience of working on this project?
We installed around 100, 000 sq m of roofs and architectural finishes in the Al Shaqab Academy. Several innovations earmarked this project which included production of aluminium top sheets from coils to form a continuous joint free roof panel 140 m long. These 110 m skylights follow the curve of the building.
Please explicate on your steel building operations.
When Al Bader was formed 15 years ago, we only had a small workshop and were mainly involved in construction of small housing, and small to medium size factory and warehouse units. As our business grew, we gained reputation for design, supply and erection of steel framed buildings. We had to outsource our fabrication business and instead concentrate on providing first class services to our clients.
What are the various quality standards adhered to by the company in the execution of its projects?
Most of the projects we are involved in have very precise specifications based on various standards such as B.S. ASTM, QCS, etc. We employ full time QA/QC professionals to incorporate these and develop a specific quality plan to ISO 9001 standards. We are also frequently involved in projects that have very specific requirements, for example, oil and gas. For these, so we adopt and adapt to the required needs.
Elucidate on the major technologies used in the execution of your projects?
There have been huge strides in technology with regards to materials, equipment and tools in recent years. We take a keen interest in new technologies and equip our staff with the latest tools. We are experts in BIM (Building Information Modelling), 3D software and transferring to CNC production data. We find these tools particularly useful for some of the more complex structures we are dealing with. On site, our land surveyors use total station equipment that can hold all project data that helps speed up the site survey and setting out works. In fact, if you look at any operations on site from excavation to roofing, you will find new technologies being applied. We have a policy of investing in useful technologies rather than gadgets.
Safety being an important parameter in construction; what are the various safety standards followed by the company?
As is the case with technology, safe working methods and equipment are also constantly evolving and we keep abreast of developments. We provide all necessary safety equipment to our employees and also train them to use it. While the rest of the Middle East is still reeling under the effects of slowdown, Qatar seems to be one of the few regions that have remained unaffected.
