Construction work on Saudi Arabia's Kingdom Tower will begin soon. The structure once completed will become the world's tallest building. It is estimated that the construction process will take about 63 months and will be complete by 2018. Piling works were completed by contractor Saudi Bauer in December last year. The developer behind the project, Jeddah Economic Company, has not decided on the precise height of the tower, other than that it will eclipse Dubai's Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest in the world. At over 1,000 m and a total construction area of 530,000 sq m, Kingdom Tower will be the centrepiece and the first construction phase of the Kingdom City development will be carried out on a 5.3 mn sq m site in north Jeddah.
