A business established in 1980, Condor SpA specialises in both construction and infrastructure industries. The company is present in 25 countries through commercial delegations in four continents and aims to become a landmark player in the formwork and scaffolding industry. How has the company´s journey been from inception till date?
ITCC-Condor was established following the collaboration of two enterprises - both leaders in their own domestic markets - Condor in Italy and International Tube and Conduit Company (ITCC) in the Gulf. Condor SpA, developed an innovative production process and through this an outstanding supply chain was born: scaffolding planning and production, wall and slab formworks, shoring structures, trench shoring for safer excavation, event structures, tribunes, stages and coverings. Today, the company has a turnover of Ç30 million; about 100 employees (average age 32); production plants in Italy for a total area of 110 sq m; and a centre of research, development and quality control, which invented the Risk Free patent in terms of safety. It is now one of the leading players in both local and international markets and is present with stocks in Africa, the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE. ITCC is a major manufacturer of steel conduits, steel tubes, scaffolding and construction props as well as fence materials. The company operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing and assembly facility at King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia. It also uses the latest technologies to produce defect-free and high quality products and services, meeting customers´ needs across segments.

How do you view the current market for scaffolding and formwork in the gulf countries? What is your market share?
The Gulf is a fast-paced and growing market; the region will also conduct events such as Expo 2020 in Dubai and the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. However, residential and industrial sectors are more superior as compared to any other area in the world. This is what makes the Gulf more interesting and competitive. The downside is represented by the great flow of companies entering this market from across the globe, further making the market competitive. Our market position has grown significantly compared to the first half of 2013 due to the acquisition of important projects.
What are the business opportunities you foresee in the immediate future? Where is the maximum demand coming from?
The most interesting opportunities will come from the infrastructure industry, where pre and post-sale technical support plays a key role, creating a valuable asset and a constant synergy with the customer. Condor provides customers with an advanced technical support and meets three specific demands: reliability assured to every partner, strict compliance with European standards for quality and prevention of potential injuries on site.
What is the demand-supply scenario like?
The demand for construction equipment is growing quickly considering that European quality and safety standards are much appreciated in the Gulf region.
What are the measures that the company undertakes to obtain and retain skilled labour? How important is it for you to get the right work force for your projects? What are your investments in this area?
Our technical-commercial team comprises of trained personnel, specifically skilled both at office and on site. The labourers undergo shadow training with Condor technicians operating in Jeddah. In addition, a continuous updating activity about new systems that our R&D team develops from the labs in Italy takes place through educational seminars, which are organised at our offices in the Gulf. The enterprise promotes and invests in partnerships with several main universities in Italy, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
How does an event like The Big 5 Dubai 2014 benefit you as an exhibitor? What are your expectations?
The Big 5 is an international event that enables manufacturers to engage with major construction companies in the Middle East. Considering that this event is a functional consolidation of relationships with loyal customers, we are positive and are looking forward to new collaborations.
What are your strategies to generate sales from The Big 5 this year?
The Big 5 as well as other important trade fairs in the sector represents an important time for the company in order to open new business opportunities. A crucial moment that we cannot exclude is a good pre and post-event preparation. In fact, the follow-up activities and technical-commercial meetings following completion of the fair are of utmost importance. Also, this year, we will be launching the lightweight formwork Haliform, exclusively for the GCC. This formwork has been designed for casting foundation beams, walls, columns, lift shaft and flooring beams.
