Essar Projects (India), the unlisted engineering and construction arm of the $27 billion Essar group, got three new orders overseas worth a total $80 million, the company said on May 23. The contracts are from Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co. (Takreer), Samsung Engineering Co and GS Engineering and Construction Corp., the latter two being South Korean companies. All three orders are for work in Abu Dhabi.
The Middle East is a key market for Essar Projects, said Alwyn Bowden, CEO, Essar Projects. These wins are strategically important steps in reinforcing the company's global footprint, and executing projects in South-East Asia, India, Africa, and the US, he added.
Indian infrastructure companies have been seeking to boost overseas orders to make up for a slowdown at home. A substantial part of the overseas revenue of Larsen and Toubro Ltd, India’s largest engineering and construction company, comes from West Asia.
